M-Bio

Management

Chris Myatt, PhD, Chief Executive Officer

Chris Myatt is the founder and CEO of MBio Diagnostics, Inc. He is a serial entrepreneur, having spun MBio out of his first company, Precision Photonics Corporation (PPC, Boulder, CO). PPC is a successful, 11 year old supplier of laser technology, both developing and producing precision optical components, coatings, and assemblies for a variety of industries. The company ships hundreds of thousands of devices world-wide every year. By applying his knowledge of design and manufacturing to optical biosensors, Chris developed the initial concepts for the MBio platform. Today he leads the company through commercial introduction of the technology.

Chris earned a BS in Physics and a BA in Mathematics at Southern Methodist University, and a PhD in Atomic Physics at the University of Colorado. He studied Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC) under Carl Weiman (Nobel Prize, 2001), and helped achieve the first condensate in Carl's laboratory. After graduate school he worked at NIST on quantum computation in trapped ions with Dave Wineland on a NRC Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship.

Sarah C. (Sally) Hatcher, Esq., President and Counsel

Sally Hatcher founded venture-backed Precision Photonics Corporation (PPC, Boulder, CO) in 2000 with Chris Myatt, and led the spin-off of MBio Diagnostics, Inc. in 2009. Serving as MBio's President and Legal Counsel, Sally provides extensive experience and leadership in the areas of legal negotiations, financing, and overall business strategy.

Sally holds a BA from Southern Methodist University and a J.D. from the University of Colorado. She worked previously as a consultant for McKinsey & Company, and as an Assistant Attorney General for the Colorado Attorney General after clerking for the Colorado Division 1 Water Court. She is currently President of PPC and MBio. In the community, she was appointed by Colorado's Governor to represent the Second Congressional District on the State Housing Board.

Michael J. Lochhead, PhD, Vice President

Mike Lochhead has managed the growth of MBio Diagnostics from a 2 person R&D team within PPC to the fully independent diagnostics company incorporated in late 2009. He has led overall product definition and R&D associated with MBio's point-of-care multiplexed immunoassay and cell counting technologies, coordinating biological assay development, disposable cartridge development, and instrument engineering. He is Principal Investigator on several major contracts with the National Institutes of Health, and manages clinical collaborations with the University of California, San Diego Medical Center and international clinical sites. Prior to joining MBio, Mike successfully developed and commercialized microarray surface chemistry products while at Accelr8 Technology Corporation (Denver, CO). Activities included building a cleanroom-based coating production facility and managing technology transfer to an international manufacturing, sales, and distribution licensee. While at Accelr8, Mike also coordinated engineering efforts for the company's prototype microscopy-based microbiology instrument, which combined integrated plastic microfluidic disposables and a fluidic control system.

Mike's academic career included an Assistant Professor position in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of New Hampshire, where his group focused on advanced materials for biosensor applications. This followed his post-doctoral training in the Bioengineering program at the University of Washington where his research focus included biomaterials engineering, nanotechnology, and microfluidic device development. Mike earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and holds BS and BA degrees from the University of Notre Dame. Mike is co-inventor on multiple issued and pending U.S. and international patents.

Milton Chang, PhD, Director

Milton Chang serves on MBio's Board of Directors and has been an advisor to the company from its founding. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Precision Photonics. Milton has an exceptional investment track record, and founded Incubic, LLC to institutionalize this approach in a venture capital and management advisory firm. Milton has personally built Newport Corporation and New Focus Inc., to successful IPO, as CEO, and has provided the first capital to more than a dozen high-tech startup companies, all were successful. He is active in the technical and business community and has received a number of prestigious awards from professional societies. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, Optical Society of America, and the Laser Institute of America, and a former President of IEEE Photonics Society and LIA. He is well-known for sharing his experience freely and writes monthly business columns for Laser Focus World and contributes articles to Photonics Spectra.

Milton earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with highest honors from the University of Illinois, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in EE from the California Institute of Technology and completed the Harvard OPM Program. He has received the Distinguished Alumni Award from both the University of Illinois and Caltech and is a member of the Board of Trustees of Caltech and an Overseer of the Huntington Library.
